After 5 years working in scientific research Paul discovered a passion for gardening after designing and landscaping his own garden. This prompted Paul to change careers and enter the world of landscaping and design.
Paul initially found work with a maintenance company and then managed to secure a job with a major landscaping firm based in Hampshire. Paul worked his way up over a six year period from labourer to junior foreman, building award winning gardens in Hampshire and surrounding counties.
He was responsible for managing a team of up to six landscapers, ensuring projects ran smoothly and the finished gardens exceeded the client’s expectations. Paul also got the chance to be involved in the construction of a garden for the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. During this time Paul studied in the evening for a Diploma in Garden Design from KLC School of Design based in London.
Paul believes his design knowledge and creativity coupled with his many years experience actually building gardens enables him to produce quality gardens that work and stand the test of time. Thus in 2014 Paul set up PLT Design after relocating to Abingdon.
Paul’s garden interests range from the gardens of the Renaissance period as well as the Palladian architecture of the time, to more modern contemporary and minimalist gardens. He also has a keen interest in Japanese gardens for their calm serene qualities and the way in which they observe and learn from nature and strive to capture the same mood within the garden.
Paul’s aim is to produce gardens that meet every need of the client and exceed their expectations, by listening to and learning about the client and garden, then responding to this with fresh design ideas to create spaces that bring enjoyment for years to come.
